I eat more than milk now! Woot.

May 28th. First Real Food Day.

Yeehaw. Having hit the six month mark and getting the go-ahead from our pediatrician, we started Real Food. Or Solids in the world of baby lingo. We started with a lovely concoction of Mommy Milk and Rice Cereal made super-duper thin and watery. A straw would have worked better than the spoon. But since he hadn't even tried a spoon before... it was worth starting slow.

We have quickly moved to baby oatmeal because rice cereal is, uh, binding. And apparently oatmeal is too. So we make it with prune juice now. I am making all his food. Which basically is about as simple as 1-2-3. Shop, steam or boil, puree, freeze in ice cube tray. Then just transfer to ziploc baggies and take the ones out I need for the next day the night before. Super duper easy and since buying organic can be a pretty penny it does help to be able to make my own. Do you know how many servings a single large sweet potato makes?! A LOT. We are still working on the same one.

So far at a month into eating real food with a spoon Joaquin has had applesauce, pearsauce, sweet potato, carrots, peas and acorn squash. He loves everything! So far he's only having a single meal of Real Food a day because it's mostly practice right now since he still is getting his nutrition from milk. But he's got it down pat.... He likes to play and does spit sometimes, but really he likes eating enough to just keep at it until All Done!

Here are some photos and a video of the very first bite of food he had. Enjoy! He did.
